Why regions matter
App store balances are region-locked. Google and Apple tie your balance to the country your store account was created in, because prices, taxes and available content differ per country. A gift card is issued in one country’s currency and can only be added to an account registered in that same country.
That means a card bought for the wrong region cannot be transferred, converted or refunded into your balance — there is no exchange rate applied and no support ticket that unlocks it. The only reliable fix is redeeming it on an account in its own country, or buying a card that matches the account you actually play on.

How to check your app store country
Google Play: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Settings → General → Account and device preferences, where your country is listed. Apple: open Settings, tap your name, then Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
What if I bought the wrong region?
An unredeemed card from the wrong country cannot be converted — it only works on an account registered in that country. Changing your store account’s country is technically possible but usually requires spending your existing balance down to zero first and can affect access to purchases, so it is rarely worth doing just for one card.
