What is cross-platform play?
Cross-platform play, often called cross-play, allows people using different gaming systems to play together online.
For example, full console cross-play would allow someone using a PlayStation 5 to join the same online session as a friend using an Xbox Series X|S.

- 🌐 Cross-platform play: Playing with people on a different platform.
- 🔄 Cross-progression: Carrying your character, purchases or progress between platforms.
- 👥 Cross-generation play: Playing between two console generations, such as PS4 and PS5.

Will GTA 6 have an online multiplayer mode?

The current PlayStation listing describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a one-player game and answers questions about multiplayer by calling it a single-player experience. The Xbox listing also lists single-player as the game’s current capability.
This does not prove that GTA 6 will never receive an online component. GTA 5 has a long-running online mode, and GTA+ is connected to the existing GTA Online ecosystem. However, Rockstar has not yet explained how or whether that ecosystem will evolve alongside GTA 6.

Will GTA 6 support cross-progression?
Cross-progression has not been confirmed.
Rockstar has not said whether players will be able to transfer GTA 6 progress, characters, purchases or currency between PlayStation and Xbox.
The current GTA Online system allows some one-time character migration between console generations, but it does not provide universal cross-platform progression. For example, Rockstar states that current GTA Online PC players cannot play with console players.
This history may provide context, but it does not confirm how a future GTA 6 online service would work.
