Rockstar Games has not confirmed that GTA 6 will support cross-platform play between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In fact, Rockstar has not yet announced the structure, features or release date of a GTA 6 online mode. The current PlayStation and Xbox listings describe Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience, and the Extended Look released on 27 August 2026 focused on Jason and Lucia’s story rather than multiplayer.

GTA 6 releases on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced.

GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but Rockstar has not announced cross-platform multiplayer between the two console families.

The company has also not revealed a GTA 6 Online mode, confirmed online player counts or said whether multiplayer will be available at launch. Official store listings currently describe GTA 6 as a single-player game.

There is no announced PC version, so PC-to-console cross-play and separate PC servers cannot currently be confirmed either. PS4 and Xbox One will not receive GTA 6.

Cross-platform play, often called cross-play, allows people using different gaming systems to play together online.

For example, full console cross-play would allow someone using a PlayStation 5 to join the same online session as a friend using an Xbox Series X|S.

These features are separate. A game can support cross-play without cross-progression—or cross-progression without allowing players on different consoles to join one another.

Rockstar has not confirmed cross-play between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Both console families will receive GTA 6 on 19 November 2026, but sharing a release date does not mean they will share multiplayer servers.

The following details remain unknown:

For the confirmed launch platforms and date, read our GTA 6 release date and platforms guide.

Rockstar has not formally announced a GTA 6 Online mode, its launch date or how it will work.

The current PlayStation listing describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a one-player game and answers questions about multiplayer by calling it a single-player experience. The Xbox listing also lists single-player as the game’s current capability.

This does not prove that GTA 6 will never receive an online component. GTA 5 has a long-running online mode, and GTA+ is connected to the existing GTA Online ecosystem. However, Rockstar has not yet explained how or whether that ecosystem will evolve alongside GTA 6.

✅ GTA 6 has a single-player story starring Jason and Lucia.

✅ It releases for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

✅ Official footage shows players switching between Jason and Lucia.

❌ GTA 6 Online has not been formally announced.

❌ An online release date has not been announced.

❌ Online player counts have not been confirmed.

❌ Cross-play has not been confirmed.

💡 Do not confuse the GTA+ bonus with GTA 6 Online: Eligible digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+, but this provides access to benefits for the existing GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library. It is not confirmation of a GTA 6 multiplayer mode.

There is no confirmed GTA 6 PC version, so PC-to-console cross-play cannot currently be confirmed.

Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 for:

There are also no official PC system requirements, PC server details or PC release date.

Previous Rockstar games eventually came to PC, but that history does not tell us whether a future GTA 6 PC version would support cross-play with PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

GTA 6 is not being released for PS4 or Xbox One, so cross-play with those consoles will not be available.

The confirmed platforms are PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Rockstar has not provided a detailed technical breakdown explaining every excluded platform. It is therefore best to state that older-console versions are not planned rather than inventing specific hardware limitations.

Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on 27 August 2026. The presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.

It showed:

The footage did not reveal an online lobby, multiplayer interface, player-created character or cross-platform session. Jason and Lucia working together should not be interpreted as online co-op. They are the protagonists of the single-player story. For more on the setting shown in the footage, visit our GTA 6 map, Vice City and Leonida guide.

Cross-progression has not been confirmed.

Rockstar has not said whether players will be able to transfer GTA 6 progress, characters, purchases or currency between PlayStation and Xbox.

The current GTA Online system allows some one-time character migration between console generations, but it does not provide universal cross-platform progression. For example, Rockstar states that current GTA Online PC players cannot play with console players.

This history may provide context, but it does not confirm how a future GTA 6 online service would work.

Until Rockstar answers these questions, cross-progression claims should be labelled as speculation.

The simple answer is that Rockstar has not yet detailed GTA 6’s multiplayer plans.

The company is currently marketing Jason and Lucia’s single-player story. The Extended Look, official website and storefront descriptions all focus on that experience.

There are several possible reasons Rockstar may reveal online information separately:

These are possibilities, not confirmed explanations from Rockstar.

🟡 Bottom line: GTA 6 is not confirmed to lack cross-play. Cross-play is simply unannounced.

The existing GTA Online can provide context, but it should not be used as proof of GTA 6 features.

Current GTA Online separates console and PC players. Rockstar Support states that PC players cannot play with console players, while progress and purchased currency are subject to platform-specific migration rules.

That gives Rockstar experience operating separate platform ecosystems, but GTA 6 could use a different system. Only an official GTA 6 announcement can settle the question.

For a comparison of the new game and its predecessor, read GTA 6 vs GTA 5: main differences.

Rockstar has not confirmed cross-platform play for GTA 6. It is not yet known whether PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players will be able to play together.

No cross-play support has been announced. Rockstar has also not confirmed that a GTA 6 online mode will be available when the single-player game launches.

That is currently unknown. GTA 6 launches on both console families, but Rockstar has not said whether they will share multiplayer servers.

The currently announced GTA 6 release is described as a single-player experience. Rockstar has not formally revealed a GTA 6 Online mode.

Online or split-screen co-op has not been announced. Footage of Jason and Lucia working together comes from the single-player story and is not confirmation of co-op.

No PC version has been announced, so PC-to-console cross-play remains unconfirmed.

Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 for PC or provided a PC release date.

GTA 6 releases for PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026.

No. GTA 6 is not being released for PS4 or Xbox One.

No Nintendo version has been announced.

Rockstar has not confirmed cross-progression or character transfers between platforms.

The announced GTA 6 release is a single-player experience, so an online subscription is not required for its offline story.

If Rockstar launches an online multiplayer mode, console platform rules may require PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core. Rockstar has not yet confirmed those requirements for GTA 6.

Communities such as Reddit and Discord can help players connect after multiplayer launches, but they do not change platform compatibility. Check Rockstar’s official cross-play information before joining a group on another platform.

Possibly, but no future cross-play update has been announced. Claims that cross-play will arrive later in 2026 or after a PC release are speculation.

GTA 6 releases on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
