Many apps and services use your mobile data in the background, without you even noticing it. This can lead to you using mobile data without knowing what you\u2019re using it for.<\/span><\/p>\n

Use the settings on your iPhone<\/strong> – you can also use the settings on your iPhone to save mobile data. Go to Settings <\/strong>-> Cellular<\/strong>. In this menu, you can turn your mobile data on and off and set up a mobile hotspot. If you scroll down you can see how much data you\u2019ve been using. You need to manually set the period. So it starts measuring at the date your mobile plan starts. It automatically sets the period from the first of the month to the end.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to not only see how much data you\u2019re using, but which apps use that data, go to Settings<\/strong> -> Cellular<\/strong> or Settings<\/strong> -> Mobile Data<\/strong>. Scroll down to see which apps use which amount of data. You can also turn it off. If you do, these apps will only use data when connected to Wi-Fi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Checking your data usage on Android works very similarly as described above for the iPhone. You can use your carrier\u2019s app to check how much data you\u2019ve used for the current billing period. There are also third-party apps<\/a> that you can use to check your data use.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also use your settings as follows. The exact name of the menu differs per brand, but it\u2019ll most likely be called something like Mobile Data<\/strong> or Cellular Network<\/strong>. In that menu, you can tap on Data Usage<\/strong>. Here you can see how much data you\u2019ve used this period and how much which apps are using. By tapping on an app in this list you can turn mobile data off, so it only uses data when connected to Wi-Fi.<\/span><\/p>\n
