Wardogs Best Settings: Aim, FOV and FPS Explained
Digital lifestyle

What to change first in Wardogs — the sensitivity and FOV options, the heaviest graphics settings, upscaling, and the controller situation. Clearly separating what BULKHEAD confirmed from what players worked out.

Wardogs gives you a deep options menu and almost no guidance, which is why the top-voted thread on its Steam forum reads “the game punishes you for what it never taught you.”

Here is what is worth changing, and — just as importantly — which of these numbers are actually established and which are guesses dressed up as facts elsewhere.

Aim and sensitivity settings

Wardogs exposes a fuller sensitivity stack than most shooters, including an ADS multiplier and a scaling system with a monitor-matching distance — the same shape of controls you see in other Unreal Engine shooters.

The settings players consistently recommend touching first: turn mouse acceleration off, leave the ADS multiplier at 1.00 until you have a reason to change it, and then stop changing your sensitivity — consistency beats the perfect number. (Player-reported. BULKHEAD has not published a settings guide.)

On sensitivity conversion, be careful what you trust. Several sensitivity-converter sites have auto-generated Wardogs pages, but they publish no yaw value and no verification. There is no established cm/360 figure or conversion factor from CS2 or Apex yet. If you want to carry your muscle memory across, match by feel on the practice range rather than trusting a generated number.

The same applies to FOV. You will see specific ranges quoted — one source says the maximum is 120, another says 95 to 110, and the guide that lists every setting name states no numbers at all. The range is not established, so set it by eye rather than to a number you read somewhere.

Does Wardogs have controller support?

Yes, but partially, and BULKHEAD was refreshingly blunt about it. In a developer post titled “10 Reasons why you should NOT Buy WARDOGS”, BULKHEAD stated that aim assist “will exist, but only to a small degree as playing without it is honestly just comically bad”, and that “keyboard and mouse will always be the optimal way” to play.

Note the Steam page does not carry a Controller tag. Players report menus and vehicles work on a gamepad but that keybinds are not remappable, with Steam Input as the workaround. (Player-reported.)

The heaviest settings for FPS

Players testing the game report global illumination, view distance and shadows as the three that cost the most performance, with global illumination the single biggest.

The tension is that view distance is the one you least want to lower — Wardogs maps are 256 km² with kilometre-long sightlines, and dropping it means not seeing people who can see you. Most players cut global illumination and shadows first, and turn off motion blur, depth of field, lens flare and bloom immediately.

An SSD is strongly advised. (All player-reported — BULKHEAD has not published settings recommendations.)

Upscaling and frame generation

Both of BULKHEAD’s official performance targets mention upscaling — the minimum tier is “1080p Low @ 60fps (Upscaled)” — but the Steam page does not name which technologies are supported.

Players report DLSS and FSR with the usual quality modes, plus DLAA and a frame generation toggle, and NVIDIA Reflex. We have found no evidence of XeSS support, so do not count on it if you are on an Intel Arc card. (Upscaling specifics are player-reported, not confirmed by BULKHEAD.)

If the game will not launch

BULKHEAD shipped a pinned Launch Stability Hotfix on release day and a separate pinned notice about incorrect bans, so some of what you hit in the first weeks is known and being worked on.

The most common crash happens during shader compilation. Players report verifying the game files and clearing the shader cache resolves it, and that first-match stutter is shaders building rather than a performance problem. For Elytra anti-cheat errors, the reported workaround is removing conflicting anti-cheat software. (Both player-reported; BULKHEAD has not published official fixes for these specific errors.)

If the game is running badly rather than not launching, check your hardware against the official tiers first with our Wardogs system requirements checker.

Wardogs FAQ

What are the best settings for Wardogs?

Turn mouse acceleration off, start with the ADS multiplier at 1.00, and lower global illumination and shadows before anything else. Keep view distance high — the maps are 256 km² and lowering it means missing players who can still see you. Turn off motion blur, depth of field, lens flare and bloom.

What FOV should I use in Wardogs?

There is no established FOV range for Wardogs — sources contradict each other and the guide listing every setting gives no numbers. Set it by eye on the practice range rather than to a figure you read online.

Does Wardogs have aim assist?

A small amount. BULKHEAD stated that aim assist “will exist, but only to a small degree” and that keyboard and mouse “will always be the optimal way” to play. Controller support is partial and players report keybinds are not remappable.

Does Wardogs support DLSS and FSR?

Players report DLSS and FSR support along with DLAA, frame generation and NVIDIA Reflex. BULKHEAD has not named the technologies officially — the Steam page only says “upscaled” in its performance targets. There is no evidence of XeSS support.

How do I convert my sensitivity to Wardogs?

There is no established conversion yet. The converter sites with Wardogs pages publish no yaw value and no verification, so match by feel on the practice range instead of trusting a generated number.

Why does Wardogs stutter in my first match?

That is shader compilation, and it settles after the shaders finish building. A crash during shader compilation is a separate, widely-reported issue that players resolve by verifying game files and clearing the shader cache.
