What is the general reaction to Nintendo’s console?

By and large, the initial reaction online has been very positive. Players are full of praise for the console’s slicker visuals, more modern design, and improved connection options. One reviewer even said, “You will not regret either buying a Nintendo Switch 2 outright or upgrading from an original Switch… this is a true next-gen Console.”

That said, it’s not all sunshine. Some users have flagged a few niggles – most notably around the battery life, the feel of the new design, and the limited choice of brand new game titles available at launch.

What Users are Saying About Nintendo’s Console Specs

The consensus seems to be that the larger 1080p display and frame rates (up to 120fps) are a real step up. Gamers say colours are punchier, gameplay is smoother, and everything looks and feels more polished. Posted after many hours of testing, this TikTok by Recharge enthuses: “Seeing these games actually perform at 60 frames per second, sometimes even 120 frames per second, is surreal”

Still, not everything hits the mark. Many are disappointed with the battery life, which tends to hover around 3 to 3.5 hours.

As one EuroGamer reviewer put it: “I’ve been using the Switch 2 for about a week and a half… my main take away from that time is that I wish the battery lasted longer”.

What Reviewers Say About Nintendo’s Console Features

Recharge’s TikTok review also notes a boost in quality when it comes to materials and overall design: “The build quality, the materials… everything that’s used just makes it feel more premium”. A review from Games Radar echoes this, calling the Switch 2 “a real upgrade in both look and feel”, although they question the design choice of the new Joy-Con controllers:

“The magnets on the Joy-Con sides allow the controllers to be connected both upside down and back to front. The two times I’ve picked up the handheld (without the screen on) to connect the Joy-Con so far, I’ve popped them on the wrong way around.”

On a brighter note, Tech Advisor pointed out that the extra USB port on top fixes a big problem from the first model – now you can charge the console while it is in kickstand mode. They also liked the stronger kickstand and magnetic Joy-Con features.

Games That Come With The Switch 2

Many fans felt let down that the console’s launch only came with one totally new game: Mario Kart World. A Vice review claimed that “while it’s a fantastic game, it’s not enough to carry an entire launch on its own.” It goes on to say that while older games “run incredibly”, they are “still older games I’ve played numerous times”.

Thankfully, new titles are already beginning to drop (users recently saw the release of both Donkey Kong Banana and Drag X Drive), with more on the horizon:

  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – Winter 2025
  • Kirby Air Riders – TBA 2025
  • The Duskbloods – TBA 2026

What Are Gamers Saying About the Nintendo Console Price?

At €469.99 RRP, the Nintendo Switch 2 comes in at almost 150 more than the original did back in 2017. So, is it worth it?

Some reckon Nintendo could have done more to keep it affordable, but many argue the price reflects what you are getting: more power, better specs, and a premium feel. One Reddit user put it this way: “Higher performance doesn’t just manifest out of the ether, it takes higher specs and thus higher costs to maintain that degree of quality.”

What Are The Pros and Cons Of Nintendo’s New Console?

Pros Cons
Specs  Bigger screen, better resolution and faster performance make for a slicker, more immersive experience. Many report worse battery longevity than previous models.
Design New USB-C ports, sturdier kickstand, and magnetic Joy-Con upgrades are all major pluses. Some claim Joy-Con drift issues are still ongoing.
Games Can play most old Switch titles, with decent third-party support and more exclusives on the way. Exclusive titles are rather limited.
Price Many feel the price is fair considering the upgrades. Some users consider the price tag hefty, and aren’t happy with the price of the new games either.

Should You Upgrade To The Nintendo Switch 2?

Listening to reactions around the new Nintendo console: it depends. If you are excited to replay old favourites with enhanced graphics and want to try the upgraded build, the Switch 2 could be worth it. But with the Xbox Ally, Microsoft’s rumoured portable Xbox console, expected this October, it might be smart to wait and compare.

If you are happy enough with your current Switch, you might hold off until more new games are out. Either way, make sure you’re ready with a Nintendo Gaming Card from Recharge – an easy and secure way to buy from the Nintendo Game Store.
